At Member Appreciation Day on Nov. 7, 2015, Selby Gardens was proud to be able to reopen our Mangrove Walkway ahead of schedule.
The walkway was rebuilt this past summer and fall after a portion of it collapsed last March, making it unsafe for visitors. With leading support from the Steinwachs Family Foundation, as well as more than 250 other foundations, businesses and individuals who donated more than $240,000, we were able to rebuild – and reopen! – the Walkway in advance of the busy upcoming visitor season.
“The Mangrove Walkway is the latest in a series of improvements we made to Selby Gardens during the last few months,” said Jennifer O. Rominiecki, President and CEO of Selby Gardens. “More than 140,000 visitors and 6,000 schoolchildren visit Selby Gardens each year, and by visiting the Mangrove Walkway, they learn about how this important ecosystem helps clean our water, protect against erosion, and provides a home to marine life.”
The walkway was designed by Hazeltine Nurseries, which also oversaw construction with help from Custom Dock & Davit.
Additional lead donors in the Walkway include the Linnie E. Dalbeck Foundation and the Rita B. Lamere Foundation, Bank of America Client Foundation, Marcia Jean Taub and Sarasota Bay Estuary Program.
